stitch a unifying thread

ABOUT

The Thread is an online literary journal, curated and edited by students in the Advanced Creative Writing: Publishing class at Central Oregon Community College. This journal was created to celebrate undergraduate creative work from current COCC students and to share it with readers everywhere. Currently, The Thread accepts creative nonfiction, fiction, and poetry. We publish the journal once a year, at the end of spring term.

Meet the Staff

Katya Agatucci

Katya Agatucci is studying creative writing and photography at COCC and plans on transferring to OSU-Cascades to pursue a Bachelor’s in studio art and minor in writing. She enjoys reading translated literary fiction, horror, or short story collections. Outside of school, you can find her collecting fashion magazines for collages, spending time with her chihuahua and maine coon, or causing a ruckus with her little sister.

Angelina candeaux

Angelina Candeaux is a sophomore undergraduate student at Central Oregon Community College. She will be transferring to OSU-Cascades to complete her Bachelor’s degree in hopes of attending law school. Candeaux is interested in most things creative including writing (typically on the more comedic side), cooking/baking, and painting. When she is not engaging in the arts, you can typically find her in the outdoors trying to pick up another hobby.

anne carne

Anne Carne studies writing and music at COCC, and hopes to publish at least one book before she dies. Recently, she has taken to procrastinating on said book to detour through creative nonfiction and short story writing. She’ll read anything that makes her laugh, but has a soft spot for the classics. When she’s not writing, she’s probably thinking about it, perhaps while chasing a thunderstorm or scritching out movie soundtracks on the violin.

raimi Nolta

Raimi Nolta is completing his Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer Degree at COCC before continuing to University of Oregon for Cinema Studies. Passionate about storytelling in all forms, he hopes to direct films that balance intimacy, imagination, and emotional depth. His fiction is drawn to fantastical worlds where the surreal and deeply human collide, exploring the beauty and difficulty of the human experience. Outside of writing, Raimi plays guitar and sings in a garage band, harnessing the high octane energy fueled by a love of music, particularly alternative rock.

Stanley souza

Stanley Souza is a poet, reader, and student. His writing is shaped by a love of poetry and literary criticism, drawing inspiration from writers such as John Ashbery, Elizabeth Bishop, and Fernando Pessoa. He is currently reading Empson and Blackmur. Outside of writing, he may be found picking through the Barber Library, enjoying long walks with his dog, and biking through Bend.

Vaughn Wheelis

Vaughn Wheelis is a writer attending the lovely community college known as COCC, attending their trade school program with dreams of wanting to work as an electrician in the future and to move out of the country. Vaughn Wheelis primarily writes fiction and horror stories, with a couple of works published, but refuses to share where to find them due to “them being too cringe and doesn’t want to be reminded of them.”
