The Thread is an online literary journal, curated and edited by students in the Advanced Creative Writing: Publishing class at Central Oregon Community College. This journal was created to celebrate undergraduate creative work from current COCC students and to share it with readers everywhere. Currently, The Thread accepts creative nonfiction, fiction, and poetry. We publish the journal once a year, at the end of spring term.
Meet the Staff

Wyatt Cecrle
Wyatt Cecrle is a full-time student pursuing an associate’s in engineering at Central Oregon Community College. Afterwards, he hopes to get his Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering and then his master’s in nuclear engineering, both from Oregon State University. For fun, he writes short creative nonfiction and flash fiction. And because he enjoys arguing, he actively engages in a love-hate relationship with American politics.
Nikki Chong
Nikki Chong is a student at Central Oregon Community College and is majoring in English Literature currently. She plans to transfer to the University of Oregon when she is done at COCC. While she likes to write about anything, she enjoys reading more, particularly fiction books. In her free time, Chong has a passion for art and crafts, watching films and television, and traveling as well.

She has always been a writer since a young age, whether it’s poetry, her daily journal entries, or just writing a story for fun. Mary finds joy in the written world, always creating when she has the chance. If she’s not writing you can find her painting or wandering into her next adventure.

Samantha Hazlett
Samantha Hazlett is a first-year student at Central Oregon Community College with an interest in Economics and Mathematics. To balance her quantitative pursuits, she expresses her creative side through writing, primarily in the genre of creative nonfiction; however, she likes to read diverse genres and one of her favorite books is Jane Eyre. When she isn’t at school, she can be found at the barn with her four horses.
Eli Lengyel
Eli Lengyel is studying writing and agricultural science at COCC. He loves insects, drawing, writing and reading poetry. He hopes to be a farmer and writer.

Kate McFarland
Kate McFarland is in her second year at COCC and is passionate about the arts. While she most enjoys poetry and creative prose, she also enjoys nonfiction and educational writing. In her free time she listens to ghost story podcasts and loses at pickleball. She also has no photos where she isn’t making a strange face.
Christina McLaughlin
Christina McLaughlin is currently studying communications and journalism at COCC. When she transfers, she plans to major in creative writing to continue pursuing her dream of writing self-development nonfiction books. McLaughlin is an alumnus of The Culinary Institute of America, a dual citizen of the U.S. and México, enjoys playing both recreational and competitive sports, and is a mother of twin girls.

Lindsey Spakousky
Lindsey Spakousky is in her second year at COCC and is working towards her Small Business and Entrepreneurship degree. She has been writing since middle school and reading her whole life. She is working on editing her novel to publish one day. She writes fiction but enjoys reading all different kinds of writing.
Tiger Walther-Gingold
Tiger Walther-Gingold is a current student at Central Oregon Community College, getting her certificate in Medical Assisting. She hopes to eventually go to another university to chase her dream of becoming a Wildlife Conservationist scientist. While she is usually doing math, her true forms of pleasure are in the poems she writes. She has had a passion for poetry ever since high school. She would love to continue the dream of creating her own poetry book one day too!
